Moss Phases

This sporophyte field is the asexual phase of moss and does not photosynthate, therefore it relies on the leafy phase (gametophyte) for sustenance. It is the same with our dreams and imagination, which are symbolic of sporophytes, reaching to the heavens for inspiration, yet relying on the physical for grounding and manifestation.

One cannot exist without the other; for the physical without creative dreams is merely a shell...and imagination without the ability to manifest is solely a fairy tale.

The beautiful field of spore-filled sporophytes is no larger than a six inch by twelve inch area.  Yet, the relationship this plant has where two distinct phases exist, each depending on the other for replication is quite amazing.  It would be like us turning into a dinosaur and it creating us.  In this case, the spore stage is non-photosynthetic and relies on the leafy stage for its energy source.  What a strange relationship and evolutionary design where each phase can only create something other than itself.

The relationships contained in this minuscule landscape are reflective of our own relationship with our creative ability and making things manifest in the physical world.   Those spores of potentiality we call dreams, or our imagination, cannot manifest on their own accord...for they don't have the energy source necessary to activate them.  They, just like the sporophytes, rely on the energy of the human form and mind to pull the spores from the ether, refining the focal point until the energy transforms the potential to reality.

And, without the field of potential, the world would be a static display of what was first put there, much like a diorama that we might see at a museum.  With all things that are static, or stagnant, it naturally leads to lifelessness, since birthing forth anything requires the cosmic grains of dreamseed.

So, the two are interdependent and symbiotic, creating more together than is possible apart.  It is the yin and yang, the above and below, the heads and tails of everything in our universe...don't mistake this with duality for they are not opposites, but cohorts in this journey we call life.
